Been studying a group of women after menopause, and have blood sugar levels high they are exposed to nearly twice the time of colon cancer or rectum over 12 years compared with women with low levels of sugar in the blood. Not one of the study subjects overnight with blood glucose levels high enough to classify patients with diabetes.

The researchers said these findings may help explain why obesity, which often go hand in hand with high blood sugar, which is the risk of cancer of the colon and rectum.

Kabat said researcher Jeffrey epidemiologist at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City that this study sheds Aldualy importance of maintaining a healthy weight, eating a good diet and exercise, all of which reduce the risk of cancer of the colon and rectum.

Risk of colon cancer
Between the National Cancer Institute that will be diagnosed this year about 141.000 people infected U.S. colorectal cancer and 49.000 will die of this disease.

Previous studies examined the effects of high blood sugar and insulin, the hormone on the risk of cancer of the colon and rectum, but the results of these studies were inconsistent.

Speech and his colleagues analyzed information on the 4.500 women aged between 50-70 years who were part of the Women's Health Initiative, conducted a large study to examine the most common causes of death and ill health in women after menopause. Analysis focuses on data collected over 12 years, including the results of tests conducted on blood sugar level several times during this period.

Were divided into three groups based on levels of sugar in the blood at the beginning of the 12 years (high, middle and low). By the end of the period of the study, 81 women with cancer of the colon and rectum. Among these women, 35 women from the group "high" blood sugar, and 18 women who have sugar in the blood "low."

The researchers said that the high levels of sugar in the blood continuously with the passage of time also increases the risk of colon cancer.

How can sugar harm colon cells?
The researchers said higher levels of blood sugar, or sugar, more directly in the growth of cancer cells, or it can be a marker for other factors, such as increased levels of inflammation, which in turn increases the risk of colon cancer.
He also said that there is a need for more studies to see how that high levels of sugar in the blood increases the risk of this cancer.

Did not sleep to find any link between insulin levels and the risk of cancer of the colon and rectum.

Focus on: a healthy weight and diet and exercise may reduce the risk of colon cancer and that by keeping the sugar levels in the blood.
