Some believe that blood donation is not only in crisis situations or natural disasters, a misconception.

Says the International Red Cross that only 5% of the total world population donate blood while suffering of millions of people in need of non-availability of blood in sufficient quantities, especially in rare species.

And stresses the need for the Red Cross to donate blood for the assistance to others, and an opportunity to renew the blood of the donor. In the case of a desire to donate the Red Cross recommend the following:

Donors are keen on eating a diet rich in iron - red flesh, fish, chicken and beans - and drink plenty of fluids and to ensure an integrated eating breakfast on the day of donation.
stay away from fatty foods because of their effect on certain blood tests that are made before the donation.
Wear loose-fitting sleeves easy to lift when you go to donate.
lie down for a period after the donation and have a snack before leaving the place.
relax for hours after clicking a donation and any activity that does not work hard.
• If you are feeling dizzy, lie down and raise the level of the feet.
Drink plenty of water throughout the two days after the donation.
