Obesity is associated with increased risk of death due to cancer of the esophagus
A recent study showed that people who suffer from obesity and who had had surgery for the treatment of esophageal cancer are more likely to return twice as cancer or death due to cancer within five years compared with patients with normal weight.
The researchers suggested that these results may change the way in which they are treating patients who suffer from obesity, people with this kind of cancer.
The researchers followed 778 patients had surgery for cancer of the esophagus and found that patients who were classified as caught the obese (BMI over 30) had a survival rate of death within five years by 18% while the rate among people with normal weight 36%.
They showed that obesity is one of the factors that lead to injury of this kind of cancer which is known as a cause of death as well as it has become common.
The researchers said these findings apply to non-smokers only who have been to remove the esophagus have, and Prior studies have linked obesity and higher risk of cancer in addition to the high rate of death due to other types of tumors, because the extra weight leads to produce a state of chronic inflammation.
