Bone marrow cells improved the ability of the heart to pump blood
Germans researchers said that patients with heart failure were injected with stem cells from bone marrow and improved function of their hearts and lived longer.
The results of one of the largest studies to date on the use of stem cells to treat heart conditions, that the beneficial effects of treatment of cells became apparent within three months and lasted five years.
And doctors for years trying to use various forms of stem cells or stem cells to treat damaged hearts. And those results are still inconclusive, but the researcher Bodo Eckhard Stror of Heinrich Heine University in Dusseldorf, said that the long-term benefits are encouraging.
And took spinal stem cells used in the study of the patient and higher pool screened in the laboratory before being injected back into the patient's heart, with improved ventricular function or the ability of the heart to pump blood.
The study included 391 patients of whom 191, agreed to treat stem cells from bone marrow and 200 did not agree to that. After five years, seven patients died in the treated group versus 32 in the other group which is a big difference.
The Stror that "Our study suggests that when using bone marrow cell therapy as an alternative or in addition to traditional treatment, it can improve the quality of life and increases ventricular performance and enhances survival.
Heart failure occurs when the heart muscle loses its ability to pump the heart through the body efficiently and often the result of a heart attack.
Not trying to conventional treatments that rely on drugs to correct the underlying cause which is usually the heart tissue and be effective to predict the progress of treatment bad.
