Studies have shown that increasing the fat to accumulate in the waist is a strong indicator of increased risk of diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure.

Says the Medical Council, the U.S. increased waist circumference of 40 men and 35 women is a concern.

And summarizes some of the tips on how to measure waist circumference:

o the person first identify the correct measurement area and the top side pelvic bones that represent the ends of the femur, a region found to be in the middle belt.
o wrap the measuring tape around the middle when the selected area.
o take into account the exhaled breath and not muted or try to suction the abdomen so that an accurate measurement.
o make sure the measuring tape is not being wider or narrower at the waist of the necessary works as a person not to catch the tape awry.
o lack of measurement above the thick clothing so as not to add to the measurement.
